UT Master Servers

The Master Server(s) maintain a list of all running UT servers. When you open the server browser, the lists you see are sent to you from the Master Server. Without the Master Server, you would only be able to connect to servers for which you already knew the IP address (using Open Location or your Favourites list).
The Master Server will be turned off on May 31st. It is being operated by GameSpy, and they've decided to cease all of their hosting activities at the end of May (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/2147 ... is_May.php). This is a possibility that's concerned people for a long time. But there is some potential good news. A small group of UT enthusiasts have created their own replacement Master Server, for which work is ongoing.
The problem is, every UT player will need to edit their UnrealTournament.ini file to add this new Master Server. And all server administrators will need to make a similar change to their server UnrealTournament.ini file to make the new Master Server aware of their server(s).
So there is discussion about the best way to proceed. There's a thread about this on the ut99.org forum (http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5619&p=62923) and also on the Epic Games forum for UT3 (http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/984 ... luding-UT3). Hopefully a workable solution will be found, but this would be a good time for brainstorming or contributing expertise.
